With our headquarters, as well as several freight and logistics hubs in the city, we note that in June cargo throughput at Hong Kong International Airport bounced back from the previous month, according to the figures released by the airport authority.

HKIA said that cargo throughput and flight movements in June saw month-on-month increases of 1.4 percent and 0.7 percent to 355,000 tonnes and 22,365, respectively.

However, it added that cargo volume continued to be impacted by global economic uncertainties with throughput in June sliding 2.2 percent year-on-year, with imports down 22.8 percent. Traffic to and from key trading regions in Southeast Asia, Taiwan and Japan showed the most significant decreases.

Over the first half of the year, cargo volume declined by 5.4 percent year-on-year to 2.0 million tonnes. On a 12-month rolling basis, flight movements rose by 35.5 percent to 195,365 as cargo throughput saw a decrease of 15.5 percent to 4.1 million tonnes.
