With increasing volumes of cargo being experienced on our LCL and FCL rail freight services between China and Europe, the U-Freight Group notes a report in the Hong Kong Shipping Gazette, which states that a milestone was reached recently when a China-Europe freight train departed from Shanghai loaded with 55 containers of cargo - making it the 100th train to depart on the route since the Chinese metropolis launched its China-Europe freight train service in September 2021.

HKSG reported that the train, loaded with air conditioners, forklifts and fabrics left China via Erenhot Port in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

As of last Saturday, Shanghai has handled over 9,900 teu of goods with a total weight of approximately 80,000 tonnes and a total worth of CNY3.12 billion (USD 453.8 million) by China-Europe freight trains, according to Shanghai Customs.

Currently the city has 10 freight cargo routes, linking it with 24 European countries and five Asian countries.

During the initial stage of Shanghai's China-Europe freight train service, there were over 400 categories of exported goods, including clothing, shoes and hats, glassware and auto parts. The service has expanded to include more than 1,300 categories of products to date, such as photovoltaic cells, automobiles, motorcycles, elevators and LCD panels, reports Xinhua.

U-Freight started our regular service in 2014, consolidating cargo in XI’an and Wuhan and using the regular services that operates from those railheads to and from railheads in Poland, Germany, and Belgium. We now handle significant consol shipments from China to Germany, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland and The Netherlands in particular, as well as smaller volumes to other European countries, handled by our network of long standing agents once the shipments arrive at the three rail freight hubs on the continent.
For FCL shipments our large Chinese presence enables us to arrange container pickup from across the country and select a service from the rail freight gateway that is nearest to our customers.

While other transport modes still face significant capacity and schedule issues, our overland rail freight service is clearly demonstrating that it offers a competitive alternative to air freight in regards to price, and considerably faster transit times compared to the ocean freight alternative.
