With our headquarters in Hong Kong and considerable presence in the city's freight and logistics market, the U-Freight Group notes that whilst global air cargo volumes decreased by 6.7% year over year in 2022, with a total of 117 million tonnes, Hong Kong International Airport remained in the top rank for international freight loaded and unloaded in metric tonnes, according to the latest estimates from Airports Council International World.

ACI World’s latest report used preliminary data to name the 10 busiest cargo airports for 2022, which welcomes back some of the world’s largest airport hubs as international traffic returns, marking an important milestone in air travel’s full recovery from the impact of the pandemic.

Air cargo volumes are estimated to have decreased by 6.7% year-over-year (-1.7% versus 2019), to close to 117 million metric tonnes in 2022.

Air cargo volumes in the top 10 airports for air cargo traffic — representing around 27% (30.8 million metric tonnes) of the global volumes in 2022 —lost 9.9% in 2022 year-over-year (but kept a gain of 4.1% versus 2019 results). The decline can be attributed to the ongoing geopolitical tensions and disruptions to global trade and supply chains.

Following Hong Kong International Airport in the rankings for international freight loaded and unloaded in metric tonnes, are Incheon, Shanghai, Taipei, Tokyo, Anchorage, Doha, Miami, Frankfurt and Singapore.
